On Sunday, 5 June 2022, the inhabitants of Islandshire joined the throng of people around the world who paid homage to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, on the occasion of her Platinum Anniversary as reigning monarch. That means 70 YEARS on the throne!

Eliot graciously allowed his sister to close off Main Street, giving Bunty full rein to throw the Street Party to end all street parties. (Pun intended. Get it? Rein, reign?) His cleaning crew was in early, and the shopowners really outdid themselves with their window displays.

We’ve decided to let the photos tell the story. Other than the little stray kitten who shows up on the street begging for food, you’ll recognize the characters as they go about the joy of having a once-in-a-lifetime celebration to honor the life of a truly amazing woman. God save the Queen! Amen!

Bunty here. I promised that you’d get to see Eliot in his full ancestral glory (click here for story about our “costumes”). Isn’t he glorious in that uniform? So many of our ancestors served in the Guards that we can’t be certain who wore this uniform, but we do know that the sword belonged to the Uncle who died at Inkermann. Eliot thinks it’s better that we not know about the rest. He says he wears it in honour of all the Guards who’ve served their country. I think he looks handsome. And it makes him stand up straight, too. (P.S. That’s Mabel with us in three of the slideshow photos, wearing the dress that her Grandma wore to Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation in 1953. What a nice surprise!)

Once the “70 Formation” passed over Buckingham Palace, they flew home by way of Islandshire. The crowd cheered and flags waved. A fitting end to our celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. May God bless Her Majesty with His peace, hope and joy!
