Isn’t it exciting?! Trudy asked me to tell you that it’s almost time for Islandshire’s own Street Party to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. That’s 70 YEARS as queen! And if we give it another 11 days, the only one in world history who will have reigned longer than Queen Elizabeth was Louis XIV. But he was . . . French . . . and he was a little boy when he got it . . . No contest. God save the Queen!
There may be a few of you out there who’ll recognize the dress and tiara I’m wearing for the Street Party, but most of you will be too young to remember Grandmama and Great-grandmother. I found a photo of my family at Queen Elizabeth’s CORONATION in 1953, and two of them were wearing these very same pieces. (Great-grandmother wore the tiara, Grandmama the dress, crinoline, socks and shoes.) I dug around in the old trunks upstairs and found it all beautifully preserved, and everythings’s just my size! I think my ancestors would be happy to see me wearing these family heirlooms on this special day. Eliot? Oh, I’m not telling. Just wait ’til you see what I found for him. If you look carefully at the edge of the photo, you’ll get a glimpse, but you’ll have to wait until Sunday (5 Jun 2022) to see him in his full ancestral glory! Until tomorrow, then . . . God save the Queen!
