Meet the Dolls

Meet the Dolls by Sarah

Islandshire is an imaginary home for our American Girl dolls (owned by Mom, Elizabeth and me) — with more than 40 named ones so far!
Here are some of our favorite photos and short introductions for each doll (in no particular order), which I hope will help keep names straight for readers of the Gazette. This Cast of Characters is likely to change at any time, though, so you’re welcome to check back often.

Eliot & Bunty

Eliot and Bunty are siblings who live on a large Island (with a very seasonal climate) in their centuries-old ancestral home.

Having inherited the family estate of Islandshire, Eliot takes his responsibilities as landowner and landlord (not to mention honorary ‘Robin Hood’ in the boys’ Merry Men Club)  very seriously and always considers the well-being of each and every inhabitant of the many islands. By nature, he’s rather quiet and not much of a conversationalist, although he’s very sociable — especially when there are Cornish Pasties on the menu.

Bunty is very outgoing and always ready to organize a fun Islandshire event. She has a passion for sheep and wool and hosts Wool Week every Autumn. Wool Week is Islandshire’s largest annual event to benefit Britain’s Rare Breeds Survival Trust. She enjoys spinning wool, particularly from her own small flock. Click here to learn more about Bunty and her sheep. Bunty’s spiciness is explained by her red hair.

Eliot is a standard AG Logan doll. Bunty is a customized Joss doll with JLY #20’s grey eyes and a CYO “dark red medium curly with bangs” wig.

Harold & Truannie

Eliot and Bunty’s best friend, Harold, is one of the most active inhabitants of Islandshire, as well as the only one with a cute baby sister named Truannie. He
‘s the President of the boys’ Merry Men Club and proprietor of the island’s popular catering business, The Blue Boar (featuring classic meals like sandwiches and burgers). Perhaps the best place to find him is on Main Street at the Seaside Diner, where he spends much of his time flipping pizza dough for the crowd. “He’s Pizza Boy U.S.A.”

When it comes to hobbies, Harold enjoys calling his chums on his Shortwave Radio and training his sheep dog, Alton. He’s starting his own small flock of American Tunis sheep. And, oh, please don’t ask him about the “Ten Wonderful Reasons to Love Wool”. Unless you have a lot of time and interest.

Harold is a customized AG Logan doll wearing a TM #76 wig.
Truannie is the baby from the TM Baby and Stroller set.

Nanea & Benny

Nanea and Benny are the sweetest brother and sister, who live in a highly decorated Island House with their ever-growing menagerie of pets, including Nanea’s prized Silkie Chicken. Flossie was the winner of the Grand Champion Animal award at the first Islandshire Annual Wool Show in 2019, and Nanea treats her like she’s the Queen of Sheba. They all live on a very tropical island, with its own private lagoon, where they dive for Momi Anuenue (aka Rainbow Pearls) to sell at her little “Pearls and Shells” stand. Nanea and Benny are always ready to entertain visitors, so feel free to stop by for a Coconut Lemonade and a bit of fresh homemade poi. (You’re welcome to have the lemonade and pass on the poi, if you know what I mean.)

Nanea enjoys practicing the hula, making snacks, caring for Flossie and collecting Disney pins (with a decided preference for anything Hawaii). Her favorite dessert is Pineapple Dole Whip, and her dream vacation is two weeks at the Disney Aulani Resort in Hawaii. Benny’s all boy and loves to swim, surf and dive when he’s not collecting pearls and shells for Nanea’s stand. He’s got a soft spot for rescue animals and dreams of having a pet skunk (his sister’s not so sure about that one). Just make sure that you don’t ask him about those scars on his tummy, because he loves to tell about his scary shark encounter.

Nanea has been customized with an AG “CYO Black Medium Curly with Bangs” wig. She insists this is her final “trim”, so she’s even been “finalized” (a rarity on Islandshire)! Benny is a customized Nanea doll with a Monique “Johnny Dark Brown” wig and eye makeup removed.

Jill and Silver

Jill and Silver are twin sisters who are completely crazy about Baby Yoda and Sabine Wren from the Star Wars sagas. As sociable as they are, they love to come to all the Islandshire events and plan on opening their own Goofy’s Candy Company store on Main Street in the very near future. It’s usually pretty easy to spot them, since they love to wear bright colors, fanny packs and knitted sneakers. (Jill and Silver are closely based on Elizabeth and me, but don’t tell anyone I told you so.)

Jill and Silver are GOTY Joss Kendrick dolls with their original wigs trimmed to a shorter cut.

Bethany & Olivia

These fun-loving artistic sisters are Jill and Silver’s best friends. Their favorite pastime is to fill the kitchen table with art supplies and spend an afternoon drawing, painting and just being creative. If you want some cute pet portraits, Bethany is your girl (German Shepherds her favorites). Livie likes to draw characters from her favorite books and films. But be careful, Liv’s drawings usually end up looking like Baby Yoda. (Now you’ve figured out why these girls get along so well with Jill and Silver, right?)
Bethany is a customized TM #62 with brown eyes and a JLY #30 wig.
Olivia is a customized Nanea with a Monique “Doris” black wig.

Trudy

Trudy is the renowned owner, editor and reporter for the Island’s one-and-only newspaper, the Islandshire Gazette. She’s never far from a good story or a public event, and she’s always ready with her trusty pencil and camera. Spoiler: sometimes her pencil gets lost in her crazy hair!

If you want to advertise in the paper or suggest stories for publication, be sure to stop by the Gazette office on Main Street. Trudy will make that you don’t leave without your free copy.

Trudy is a customized Beforever Addy with an unknown wig.

I’m working on adding dolls to this page! More coming . . . soon.
