1980s Sears Wish Book & Toys for Courtney

Hot off the presses! The newest Islandshire project is a miniature 1980s Sears Christmas Wish Book catalog for Courtney (and all of us who are nostalgic for the fun toys and plush of the period).  Choosing our favorite 80 pages from more than 2,000 original pages was challenging, to say the least. Since this is the era when Sis and I grew up, it was the most difficult catalog to abridge. Everything was so cool! In the end (in order to make the perfect 1980s Christmas Catalog experience for dolls like Courtney), we had to compile pages from the 1984, 1985 and 1986 Sears Christmas catalogs into one book with a 1986 cover.

Our Brighton dressed up as Courtney for these photos. She’s been watching the “finished box” on my desk like a hawk. The first Wish Book wasn’t even dry from the gluing when she grabbed it and ran out the front door to start making a wish list before anyone else found the catalog.

There’s an awful lot of ooh-ing and ah-ing coming in through the open window, so I can’t wait to see what she’ll pick . . . though it seems like she already has an awful lot of the toys featured in there . . .

These are later mini versions of some of the iconic ’80s toys, including Furskins and Berenstain Bear plush, a Care Bear plush, and a totally functional little Lite Brite!

And to finish up with the fun, here are some shots of the inside of the catalog.

We’ve got a variety of other projects “in the works”, as well as trying to get things made up for the Islandshire Etsy shop before Christmas-decorating time arrives (it’s really just around the corner). Lots of ideas with not enough time . . .

  1. Oh the nostalgia! This sure takes me back. Care Bears, Rainbow Brite, Get in Shape Girl, that Laura Ingalls Wilder box set (which a relative gave to me)! Awesome.
