Review: Unboxing TM #119 (Light Nanea)

If you’ve followed my posts at all, you know that my “dream doll” from AG has always been a light Nanea with blue eyes. I had little hope, to be honest, but I never gave up on the dream. I’ve wanted one for so many years, in fact, that my first glimpse of one was almost anticlimactic. TM#119 was the first set of boxes I sat down in front of at the store on release day. While she’s exactly what I was looking for to replace the Corinne I was using for my Omera, it took every box they had in the store to find just two that had decent eyes. The left eye on this doll is definitely an issue. I DO NOT recommend ordering this doll without seeing it first. For those of you who can’t get to a store, I recommend you get a Personal Shopper number from someone and explain that you don’t want the white showing under the irises on your doll. (See the Comments Section below for “the good, the bad, and the ugly” of this doll. You’ll find lots of the first, a bit of the second, and none of the third.)

Anyway, let’s get on to what you really came here for. Photos!

In the box and right out of the box, still netted.

Just out of the net, but we didn’t brush or comb it. It will, of course, drop a little more as it hangs loose.

Finally, Omera with her brother, Fletcher. She’s the same doll shown above wearing a Saige wig. Fletch is a TM #75 with a Kemper Tyler wig (Strawberry Blonde) and Blaire’s green eyes. Aren’t they adorable together? (Yes, they’re the same 10 skintone. We even had to double check before posting this. It’s the color of the wig and eyes that’s making them look like they have slightly different skin colors.)

COMMENTS SECTION

HEAD This is definitely an unmodified Nanea head mold poured in the regular light 10 skintone that they’ve been using for years. The only change from the Nanea historical doll is the new eye makeup. Even the eyebrows didn’t change. The lip paint and wig placement were consistent throughout the boxes.

EYES It took every box they had in the store to find just two that had decent eyes. The left eye on this doll is definitely an issue. I DO NOT recommend ordering this doll without seeing it first. For those of you who can’t get to a store, I recommend you get a Personal Shopper number from someone and explain that you don’t want the white showing under the irises on your doll.

BLUE EYES This doll has what AG is calling Light Blue right now, and they’re stunning. American Girl has two blue eye colors again, but they are NOT the same as before. The new Light Blue are the old Dark Blue (like #74 and Kit). The new Dark Blue are darker with a bit of a greyish cast (less aquamarine). We’ve only ever seen two pairs of these, one from the Doll Hospital, the other in a dark-blue-eyed CYO we ordered in Summer 2021. The dark-blue-eyed CYO we ordered in 2019 did not have these; hers were a much lighter “dark blue”. It took us a while to figure this out, but I hope we didn’t leave you more confused than ever.

WIG This is a NICE quality wig! You know I don’t usually like “colored” wigs, but this was a stunner for all of us right out of the net. Okay fiber quality, as much as recent AG wigs have had in the last couple of years, but not as poor as TM #91. Just the right amount of thickness, not skimpy. (If you’re used to Exquisite Doll Designs or others of that ilk, this is probably not thick enough for you.) Personally, I wouldn’t want any more hair in there than this. It looks beautiful on the doll, the way it curls and drapes. The  fact that it’s solid blue on the top, you don’t have that weird mismatch of highlight stripes at the part that most of the others have. Don’t be misled by my store-display photos. For some reason, that store sausage-curls every doll, right out of the box, for their displays. This wig was not made for that and is at its best when flowing freely. The two-tone dying has been expertly done on this one, and the ends are not “fried” like some recent AG wigs. Now, let’s hope that every wig is the same in this release, or you’ll think I’m crazy!

WIG REMOVAL This was one of the EASIEST (and I mean easiest) wigs to remove I’ve ever handled. It practically jumped into my hands by itself. This would be a great doll for a beginner to try their hand at re-wigging. Might be a nice mother-daughter weekend project.

“OUTFIT” Her body cover (dress) is just like the others and panties like previous TM releases. The shoes are glittery vinyl with elastic laces (not hard solid plastic).

I’m working on uploading her wig photos right now, but there are so many cute ones that I want to share them all. (By the way, I haven’t gotten Marie Simone back from Mom, but it’s too cloudy today to shoot, anyway. I’m hopeful for tomorrow. She’s soooooooo cute! You definitely want to consider her for a Claudie doll!)
