Minikin Character Doll

Minikin Character Dolls from Jules Verne's 'Around the World in 80 Days'

Our David Niven, Shirley MacLain and Cantinflas MINIKIN character dolls are loosely based on outfits seen in Michael Todd's 1956 movie, "Around the World in 80 Days" (adapted from the Jules Verne book of the same name).

Mr. Fogg, dapper and ready for adventure, is travelling the globe in an 80-day race and likes to dress for every occasion. For today's listing, he's chosen his fabulous safari travel suit, pith helmet and double-breasted vest.

The edges of Fogg's wool-rayon felt clothes have been handstitched with linen floss, the buttons with metallic thread. Our little fella's head and hat have been entirely needle-felted with wool. Wish we could show you his famous watch, but he must have left it in the bag or on the train. Oh, Mr. Fogg, how careless . . .

Princess Aouda, having been saved from a fiery death in India, is travelling with her rescuer, Phileas Fogg, and his manservant, Passepartout. Even with all her woes and cares, the Princess manages to look impeccably beautiful in every scene. We think we've captured that here in our Minikin.

There is so much metallic thread in the Princess' clothes and "jewelry" that you can feel the weight in your hand. The edges of her wool-rayon and bamboo-rayon felt clothes have been meticulously handstitched with mercerized cotton floss and/or gold-colored metallic thread. Her head has been entirely needle-felted from wool roving.

Just take a look at her clothing and accessories! Her skirt, head covering and long scarf have been skillfully embellished with a lot of gold-colored metallic thread. "Necklace, bracelet and ring" have been crafted entirely from this same thread. Because of the time-consuming nature of working with metallic thread, the Princess has twice the amount of hours in her construction as do any of the other Minikins. Everyone who's seen her has oohed and wowwed. She may be small, but she certainly does affect you in a big way!

Cantinflas as Passepartout, hailing from "a very ancient family", is travelling with his Master, Phileas Fogg, around the globe in an 80-day race. For today's listing, he's wearing his trademark baggy pants (with patches) and carries his Master's carpetbag.

The edges of this Minikin's wool-rayon felt clothes have been meticulously handstitched with mercerized cotton floss, and his jacket sports glass seed-bead "buttons" in the front and back. Our little fella's head has been entirely needle-felted from wool and mohair. The separate (detachable) "moneybag" is empty, because they've reached the end of their journey and have spent everything they had.

Each of our Minikins is handcrafted, one at a time. The wool-blend felt clothing is all made by hand with hundreds of tiny stitches. The heads are needle-felted in one piece.

You will receive a pair of Minikins made especially for you, similar to the one seen in the photos above. PLEASE ALLOW THREE WEEKS FOR US TO MAKE YOUR DOLLS. There will always be slight variations in design and detail. Minikins are one-piece, non-poseable dolls.
